Bye, bye, extra clothes! Hello, extra space!

Getting Organized:
In your Home and Homeschool

Dear Friends,
Today, I want to talk to you about clothes. We all have too many clothes. Many of you are holding onto years and years of clothing. If I asked you to find the oldest clothing item in your closet, how old do you think it would be?
Some clothing items are sentimental. I still have my wedding gown. I have the outfits my children came home from the hospital in. I have a baptism gown my mother-in-law made. These items are all stored and not in the regular part of our closets.
A couple of years ago, I pulled some dresses from the very back of my closet. One went back to 1986! I let it go during that purge. Last week, I let go of a lot of the boys’ clothes. This week we will still let go of more clothes.
With my regular monthly purging of clothes, I still have more than I need. The boys have more than they need. I did something today that I did not know I was ready to do. I worked with my oldest son on dismantling the big walk in closet that we built with temporary walls many years ago. At one point, all five boys shared that closet.
I made the decision that it was time to make that bedroom more spacious. Now, I have the holes where the walls and racks were attached patched and drying. I will sand the walls and paint them later in the week. It’s a process.
The room has a standard closet, so there will be a place for my son’s clothes. He is looking forward to moving his furniture around and having a new look for his room.
Each day this week, spend 5 to 10 minutes with each of your children and help them let go of clothes and stuff from their rooms.
Your zone mission today is all about clothes. Put all of the clean clothes away today. If they don’t all fit, you know what to do — purge!
Your Zone Mission today is to put away all of your clothes.
Your Home Blessing for today is to dust and vacuum.
My menu plan for Tuesday is dinner at my mom’s house with Easter leftovers.
Have a great day!
