Detail Clean the Dining Room – Getting Organized

Getting Organized:
In your home and homeschool

Happy Friday! Today we are going to detail clean the dining room. This can range from dusting to wiping down the surfaces to detail cleaning the china cabinet or decluttering more in the dining room. I want you to have a room that is welcoming that you can enjoy meal time with your family. Our daily meals together at our dining table are some of my best times. We make memories. We share stories. We laugh. We pray. Work on keeping your dining room clean and the table ready to use daily.

Have a great week-end!

Declutter Your Dining Room – Getting Organized

Getting Organized:
In your home and homeschool

Today we are moving to the Dining Room. Set your timer for 15 minutes and declutter and detail clean as much as you can before the timer goes off. If you use your dining room for school or other projects, work on having a place to store that stuff. I keep our school books in a cabinet with doors that is beside of our table. This gives easy access, and it gives us a place to keep the books out of sight when we are not using them. Put some flowers on your dining table (silk or real flowers) and make it pretty. We will spend 15 minutes in the Dining Room on Friday as well, so don’t worry if you can’t get it finished in one day. If it needs a lot of decluttering, put it on your list this summer to work on while you are not doing school with your children.

Plant Some Flowers – Getting Organized

Getting Organized:
In your home and homeschool
Hello! How is your Spring? Have you planted any flowers? Since we are working on the entrance to our homes this week, let’s plant some flowers outside to make our home look inviting from the outside. This is a fun activity for the children to participate in. They can pick out flowers for you for Mother’s Day, and they can help plant them. My husband already did this for me this year. It was a sweet surprise for me.

Zone Mission: Plant some flowers.

New Month and a New Zone – Getting Organized

Getting Organized:
In your home and homeschool

Hello! Welcome to a new month and a new zone of the week! It’s May, and for most of us, the weather has warmed up. As we work on our Zone of the Week, let’s think about planting some flowers in our flower beds. I came home from a homeschool conference last night, and my husband had kept the house clean and planted flowers for me. Happy early Mother’s Day! It was a nice surprise. You can take your children to a local gardening store or nursery and let them pick out some flowers to plant for you for Mother’s Day. What better way to make the front of your home than to plant a few spring flowers.
May also means it’s time to think about ending your children’s school year. All of you need a break from the academics, so pick your ending date and start wrapping up your studies for the year. We always start early in August, so we can have an earlier end to the school year. Don’t forget to finish your end of year paper and sort through your books before you add more new books to your collection.

Zone Missions: Entryway

Monday – Declutter & Sweep Front Porch
Tuesday – Plant some flowers along the front of your house
Wednesday – Declutter & Dust Entryway of your Home
Thursday – Declutter in your Dining Room
Friday – Detail Clean Your Dining Room Furniture

Later this month, I will be in Sandusky, OH, and in June, I will be speaking at the North Carolinians for Home Education Conference in Winston-Salem, NC.

Read HERE about the events I will be attending this Spring.

Decorate the Living Room – Getting Organized

Getting Organized:
In your home and homeschool

Happy Friday! It’s the last day in Zone 5 – The Living Room. Let’s work on the decorations in the Living Room today. You can easily change the look of your living room by switching out your throw pillows or by putting new covers on your current throw pillows. You can also “lighten” the feel of the room by putting away the heavy, winter throw blanket and replacing it with a lighter spring throw. Look at the flowers and pictures you have on display in the living room. Can you switch anything else around to make a change in the room?

Have a great week-end!
If you have any questions or tips, please email me. I enjoy hearing from my readers.
Zone Mission: Decorate in the living room – change the throw pillows and blanket.

Go Sofa Diving – Getting Organized

Getting Organized:
In your home and homeschool

Today’s mission is a favorite of one of my sons. Today, we are going sofa diving. It’s time to clean out the sofa. Take off the cushions. Pull out the stuff that has fallen between the cushions, and once you have the big stuff out, use the vacuum cleaner to detail clean. Whoever does the sofa diving in my house gets to keep any money that is found. This is a fun incentive.

Zone Mission – Go sofa diving

Today is the first day of the Teach Them Diligently Homeschool Conference in Atlanta, GA. It is a joy to be at the conference for the next three days. I will be speaking, and I will be at The FlyLady’s booth to talk to homeschoolers. If you are in the area, come on out.

Vacuum Under the Living Room Furniture – Getting Organized

Getting Organized:
In your home and homeschool

Today we are going to move the living room furniture around and vacuum (or sweep) under it. Get someone to help you with this project. I appeal to my strong sons to help me move furniture. I do not want to hurt myself. Do not do this mission alone. While you are moving furniture around to clean, see if you can come up with a new way to arrange the furniture. Sometimes we just get stuck in a rut, and we need to shake things up a little bit!
Zone Mission: Detail clean under your living room furniture.

Grocery Shopping and Errand Day – Take your list, pack snacks, and water bottles.

  • Clear off One Hot Spot
  • Reboot the Laundry

Detail Dust the Living Room – Getting Organized

Getting Organized:
In your home and homeschool
Today let’s detail dust from the ceiling down to the baseboards. If you are doing your weekly quick dusting, you should not have a lot of areas that need detail cleaning. This should take you 15 minutes or less. Use a long-handled duster to help you get up high and behind the furniture. Be sure to shake out your feather duster when you are finished. If you only spend a few minutes doing this, then spend a few more minutes making the living room pretty.

Zone Mission: Detail dust the living room.
